Pastor Cornel Moisuc and his wife from Brasov Independent Baptist Church in Romania led another group of five Romanian individuals to help in the work of evangelism in Thessaloniki. They labored in the heat to give tracts, preach, and sing of Jesus Christ. One of the Romanian brothers, Peter Militaru, is in his 70’s. He is pictured below preaching the gospel. May God give more saints the zeal and heart of this dear brother. He tirelessly held a sign and distributed tracts despite the heat and the ailments of his age. What a family of God we have! Pastor Moisuc is also pictured below with Alexandru (our new brother in Christ) at a special midweek service we had for the Romanians. Avra, our dear Greek lady, also attended.

We had our 2nd police encounter (picture below). The enemies of the cross of Christ again flooded the emergency numbers of the police station to vent their anger in an attempt to stop our witness. Oddly, the complaints were that Bro. Angelo was too loud. They had NO problem with the Americans or Romanians preaching. Only the GREEK was an issue. The complaint was ludicrous since Angelo doesn’t preach nearly as loud as Bro. Logan. We tried to reason with the police about our level of volume. Was the singing prohibited since it was louder than Angelo’s preaching? Can our volume not reach the level of noise from the traffic passing by? The officers were annoyed that we just didn’t acquiesce to stopping our activity. When things escalated, I called our lawyer who began to speak for us. The police then challenged our activities with the lawyer on the basis of the Greek anti-proselyting laws. It is a good thing that our lawyer is the premier lawyer in the nation concerning these matters. The police quickly left that charge and went back to the noise level issue. In the final analysis, the officer told me that if we did not stop witnessing that I would have to accompany him to the station to discuss these things. Knowing how this is a manner in which to remove us from our activity without charging us, Bro. Logan respectfully told the officer that he chose not to go to the station. He would only go if he was being arrested for breaking a law. This position was taken because the Logan family has obtained religious visas from the government that allow their religious activities. The police had a decision to make. They chose not to push the issue and left. The preaching and singing continued. We chose to kindly lower the volume a bit in appreciation.

First Soul Saved!!!

On Wednesday, we headed back to the city center with our Romanian brethren to represent the Lord Jesus Christ. This was an unusual day. Never have we seen so many people in the city. The traffic was unusually heavy, and even all the public paying parking lots were full. We aren’t sure if the vacation season has brought more people into the city, but the streets were filled with multitudes of people. We had a great time singing and preaching of Jesus for hours on end. Tracts went like hotcakes. Then, while Bro. Brent was preaching, a mob seemed to form around Bro. Angelo. The gospel was certainly stirring the city. More than 20 people gathered around Angelo as he stood for Christ while Bro. Brent kept preaching. The large group turned very loud with all lifting up their voices in opposition or an occasional support of the truth. One angry woman led the disbelievers. We haven’t seen this much action to date. It got seriously emotional. Praise the Lord for the shaking of the people by the word of God. The crowd did not just pass by ignoring our witness. They were compelled to stand for it or against it. Finally, Bro. Brent grabbed Angelo out of the crowd. He moved away somewhat and began to preach in Greek. The crowd slowly disseminated.

The Romanians did a great job witnessing. More divine appointments were seen. More than 3 Romanians were met on the street Wednesday. They all received a good witness from our brethren. Bro. Adrian also preached in the Romanian language in the square. Mrs. Ana was led by the Lord to a lady who was very inquisitive about our sign. They began to speak in Romanian. The lady was so glad to see Mrs. Ana that she began hugging her. Elena and her husband had moved to Thessaloniki from Romania many years ago. Her father was a Greek and her mother a Romanian. She said she was saved but had no church to go to. Mrs. Ana invited her to a Wednesday night service that we had arranged all in the Romanian language because of their special visit. She was very happy to come and wanted to bring her husband who she said was lost. We finished our gospel labor and went home for food and rest until the evening.

Bro. Brent and Bro. Angelo had to meet with a Greek couple at 6pm who desired to study the Bible. The Romanian midweek service was scheduled for 7pm. Elena and her husband, Alexandru came to the 7pm service. We sang and preached in Romanian. All were blessed. After the service, the Romanian brethren began to speak more personally to the visiting couple. They extended an invitation for us to come to their home on Thursday for a detailed visit about the gospel of Jesus Christ.

THURSDAY morning we went to their home and spent much time showing the way of salvation by grace through faith apart from works. For the first time in his life, Alexandru knew what he needed to do to be saved. He bowed his head, folded his hands, and called out on his own to Jesus Christ for forgiveness and salvation. PRAISE THE LORD! He smiled the smile of the redeemed and kept telling me that he knew now he was saved!!!!

There is no doubt that the Lord sent our Romanian brethren to Thessaloniki to fish for men. It doesn’t matter if they are Greek, Romanian, black, or white. Jesus wants to save people from their sins.

WHO WILL BE THE NEXT TO BE PLUCKED FROM THE BURNING?
DOES THIS NOT MAKE THE MONEY AND EFFORT WORTH IT?
YOU WILL SEE ANOTHER SOUL IN HEAVEN BECAUSE OF THIS PROJECT!
YOU HAVE A NEW BROTHER IN CHRIST BECAUSE SOMEONE CARED TO COME!

Today, the first international team of Christians arrived in Thessaloniki in the evangelism effort. Five folks traveled from our Romanian church in Brasov this week to aid the work. Next week, five more will come. We are thrilled to have these believers with us and enjoy the renewed fellowship we once had with them. Missions and obedience to Christ isn’t just for Americans. It is the responsibility of every believer and every true church that bears the name of Christ and His word no matter where they be found.

Brother Brent – Visa Update

One of the great challenges missionaries have on the foreign field is that of visas. Each country is very different in what is required in order to stay for a while, and there are varying degrees of difficulty in how to obtain this possible permission. Understanding this, our family began working in February of this year with Greek authorities for permission to be in the country for the duration of the evangelistic effort in Thessaloniki. We submitted all the paperwork and requests promptly even driving and flying to destinations in order to have required meetings with officials. Each month that passed we inquired about our status and were assured all would be well. Knowing that US citizens can only stay in Greece for 3 consecutive months began alarming us when we never saw a response about our request. Our family came down to the wire and still had no answer. Finally, with only days left on our legal stay, we had to quickly leave Greece and go back to Romania. This prompted many prayers from the brethren in many places to ask for God’s favor to allow us to legally stay in Greece and get a response from the authorities. Thanks be unto the Lord for the answer to those petitions! Our lawyer has now obtained our family’s visas from the Greek Consulate in Bucharest, Romania, and they are in our possession. There is no way to communicate all of the difficulties and potential serious problems we had faced with these issues. The lack of prompt labor is a hallmark of Greek society. Being put off week after week with no resolution had left our work in Greece totally up in the air. Committing these things to the Lord’s will, we were resolved for whatever the final outcome may have been. We praise God for the positive result so that we may now legally get back to work in the streets of the city of Thessaloniki for the sake of the gospel. Your prayers made the difference!

Good day all:

We had a really good time yesterday on our Philippi journey. The ruins were interesting to see, and so was the place where Lydia was baptized (Acts 16), but the real joy was in witnessing and tract distribution.

Our first encounter was with a catholic nun who approached Bernard to inquire where he is from. As it turned out, the nun is from Baltimore, Maryland. The other nuns are from Ukraine and Argentina. The conversation went very well until Angelo and Bernard began to witness to her. Angelo told her of his glorious conversion, and she told of her hope which is in her works and Christ. Bernard asked her if her faith is in the scripture, tradition or both; she said both. You would have thought she was sitting on an ant pile, the way she began to squirm when she was being witnessed to.

After we departed the water side, we ducked into the adjacent Orthodox church which, as far as we could tell is there for show only. After that, we traveled to Kavala to eat lunch. Kavala is a very beautiful town on the mountain side and on the sea coast. We ate lunch in a divinely appointed spot. We invited the man and woman who run the business to sit with us and talk. They were happy to accommodate us. Once we exchanged pleasantries, we began to tell them of our great God and savior, Jesus Christ. They were very glad we had come by and told them, for they had never before heard such things as were expounded unto them that day. Although I do not recall their names, God knows who they are. Please pray for them.

After we departed Kavala, we stopped for gas about 40 kilometers down the road. We remembered that on the way to Philippi we had seen many small villages and how we would really like to go and visit one of them. Well, after we filled the tank, we up the mountain to a very quaint little town. As we drove up the narrow one car street, we passed by the town’s people who were out in number. Once we reached the top of the town, we could no longer refrain ourselves; we had to give those people the gospel. Therefore, as we descended Dan and Bernard jumped out gave gospel tracts to all the people who were out and about. What a grand time we had doing that!

Good day all:

Yesterday was Sheri and Audrey’s first time at the square. We all enjoyed our time there preaching, singing and distributing tracts. We have decided to use some new tactics: we begin at the end nearest to the water and spend several minutes there before moving to the next section up. We do that until we reach the top of the square, and by that time we are there for about three hours.

Greetings once again from Thessaloniki,

Today we were able to distribute over 1000 tracts in a huge parking area.

Before we did this, Angelo needed to resolve an issue regarding his visa situation. He did receive some good news. He had a meeting with Soulis, a lady who works for the municipality of Greece. She has been a great help to him, e-mailing the consolate in Sydney for him, giving him her personal number, and even pushing him to the front of a very long line. She’s helped bring some ease of mind to him. Please remember to pray for this situation, knowing that it could turn any way, depending on who is handling the paperwork.

Remember also the Logan family as they have been waiting for a long time for an answer about their visas and cannot be out in public until it is resolved.

Please continue praying for these men and their families. We can see the weight of pressure that is lying very heavily upon them. We need to seek God for them that they would have strength of mind as well as wisdom in regards to the church than God has already begun in this city. Both men don’t complain, but being here for a bit more than a week, it is easy for us to see that the task is daunting. We are exhausted after being out on the streets, going to run errands for the church, but unlike them, we don’t have to make follow-up calls and visits, prepare messages and interpret the work. Other than these things, there is much for them to do. Please pray.

Γεια σας τύπος Χριστιανοί (hello fellow Christians)

Χαιρετίσματα από Θεσσαλονίκη (greetings from Thessaloniki). Today, we had a great time doing a walk-about tract distribution. We left them on cars, trucks, bikes, walls, phones, ticket booths, and gave them to many people people. In all, we walked for two hours. We wanted to go longer but had to get back to the church so that an a/c unit could be installed. While we were there, we made good use of our time and cleaned the building and performed some maintenance.

The city of Thessaloniki is a fair size city, land-wise. We estimate it to be about the size of Gainsville, Florida; however, people-wise, it is much larger. The average building in the city is at least five stories. The first floor is comprised of businesses, and everything above that is residential. There are many people here!

Pray for wisdom on the behalf of Angelo and Brent. These men have their hands full. Angelo has been told conflicting information with regard to having to serve in the Greek army. The law is that he must serve, but he has been told by one person that he will not have to serve, and another has told him he will have to serve. Let us bring the matter to our great God. Please pray for Angelo.

In case people wonder, Angelo does four things: sleep, eat, study, and witness. Our day begins sometime around 6 or 7am, on the street from 10 or 11am until 2pm, then eat and study until 2am on average. At this rate, he is going to burn out very soon, unless God intervenes.

If you think Florida is hot, visit this place. It is hotter than a fire cracker on the fourth of July. I was praying earlier and telling God that we are trying to reach these people for him but that we are not sufficient for the task. Well, we may not be but he is. God used Paul, and he can certainly use us, if we will obey him and go. The more I think about Jesus’ command, to preach the gospel, I see the simplicity and how any believer can do it.

Pray for us. Yours in Christ, brother Bernard.

From Brent Logan:

Thank you to everyone who continues to pray for the work of the Lord to be done in Thessaloniki. Today we were blessed to have the most Greeks yet to attend our Sunday service. There were six Greeks in attendance, four of which had come for the first time. We worshiped the Lord Jesus with a total of 14 individuals in the building God has provided. Koula and her daughter came from two and a half hours away. These are saved individuals with family in the States. How precious it is to see people travel over 2 hours in the heat to attend a service where the Bible is preached and Christ is honored. We were blessed by their presence even though they had to quickly go back on the long trip to their home in Florina, Greece. Pray for these believers. We greatly wish they lived closer. Angelo had spoken to Ilias this week on the street, and this young man had come to church. Another man we didn’t know walked through the door and stayed for the whole service. Harula had also come again and so did Avra. We continue to converse with these ladies concerning the gospel. They always listen intently during the preaching. Our desire is to see genuine conversions of souls and many others to walk through the doors as they have promised. How our great Father deserves a Bible believing church full of Greeks again in the city of Thessaloniki! We are attempting to reach the multitudes in this city, but it comes down to each individual choice and decision. Sadly, most people (in every land and nation) choose death instead of life. We are happily bound for the promised land and seek any and all who will go with us!

From Daniel:
Today, instead of having a day off, Bernard and I decided to take the brand new sign and show it off as we walked up and down the square. We had some good conversations. Though many people stared at the words (Ephesians 2:8-9) on the front and (Romans 6:23) on the back, many more people rejected the tracts. One man did stop us and asked for a Bible.

This morning, the three of us went for a jog, and Angelo had a very good conversation with the clerk at the dry cleaners. Then while Angelo and Brent spoke to some men and women from the scriptures, Bernard and I did a very enjoyable mini smack-down.

Altogether, this day turned out busier than others, but it was enjoyable in our busy-ness.
